About Us

At First Presbyterian Church everyone is welcomed and affirmed.

Our Story

First Presbyterian Church in Gallipolis is a part of The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We trace our history back to the early days of the Reformation and the teachings of French theologian John Calvin. The Church of Scottland was founded in 1560 based on the Presbyterian form of government. Presbyterianism came to the colonies in 1706 in Philadelphia.

First Presbyterian Church of Gallipolis was founded March 15, 1815. The current sanctuary was completed in 1839, with the bell tower and buttresses added in the 1870s.

Our Mission

Gallipolis First Presbyterian Church has a long and rich history of commitment to God. We are an open and inclusive community of faith because we believe everyone belongs in God’s family; we are all God’s children and in need of His love, mercy, and forgiveness.

We exist to love God by worship and practice of the teachings of Jesus Christ through serving others. We hear the Lord’s call to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God. (Micah 6:8)

Together, we seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Our mission is to strive and grow in grace and to serve others for the glory of God, our Father.
